Barkers’ season was effectively over when they secured survival in Midlands One with their victory over Walsall two Saturday’s ago. Burton on the other hand had unfinished business to complete with a victory needed to get the home venue advantage in the promotion play off against Derby. Barkers fielded a side equally divided between their 1st, 2nd and colts XV’s Burton came with a full compliment of 1st XV players and a coach load of celebrating supporters.
The game was played in a sportsman like manner but the sheer size and weight of the opposition meant that Barkers had few opportunities to attack from inside Burton’s half. Burton scored 5 tries in each half equally shared between their forwards and backs to reach their 60 points.
With both Barkers 2nd XV and the Colts heading their respective leagues the competition for first team rugby next season can only be good for the club.
